Hi,
Does anyone know how water resistant the Rex is? I'm guessing that as the battery doesn't get changed you can't open it up to assist drying like with Photon? However, that also means that in principle I guess it could be a pretty well sealed unit.
Anyone got any experience / knowledge on this?
Thanks,
Sam |

It was reported on CPF, that 1st it was thought the ReX was waterproof, then Bryan (from LRI) stated that it's now at a "not sure" status. He's waiting for official word from the LRI Techs as to whether or not the ReX is considered waterproof or not. To be honest, in this day in age, I'd just assume that all lights had some level of water resistance built-in. I'd be highly bummed if the ReX could not handle a drop in a puddle or something along those lines. _________________ Race to the Championship |

Thanks for the reply, sorry - I missed Bryan's post on that.
Yes I guess I'd expect them to make it somewhat resistant. My main concern is that if it is a sealed unit then if it does get water in it will be a lot harder to dry out than some of the earlier ones. |

Yesterday my Rex just spent a half-hour in the wash. It was regular cycle, warm wash, cold rinse, fast spin, in a top-loaded Fridgidaire washer unit. I shook all the water out and put the thing in the sun for an hour.
I pushed the button and it cranked-up fine so apparently the electronics are sealed.

| Ok if your worried about water getting into your Rex just put it in a ziplock bag. My Proton pro on the other hand was submerged in water for 3 days on slow red stobe and was fine. |

I have four Rex lights. (Early model) I have had at least two of them open for repairs. The two halves of the case meet with flat surfaces, with no o-rings or other sealants.
If you hold your tongue just right, you might be able to slip a thin piece of paper in between the case halves. (not easy) So water resistance is likely the best we can hope for. I say this, not knowing if there may have been improvements in sealing the case, where the two halves meet. However, I doubt this has happened.
The LEDs do have rubber (glow-in-the-dark) sealing protection, but these are not real tight, either. Again, I would say, water resistant, not water-proof.
I believe that a quick dip in a puddle, will likely not do any harm at all. The depth of the water would play an important roll in pushing the water inside of the light.
Certainly the Proton, on the other hand, does indeed have o-rings in place to do the job and would probably meet a water-proof definition, down to some given depth of H2O.
